Beatriz Oliva Soto Ruvalcaba Protegete, Director at Conservation Colorado

Beatriz Soto has dedicated two decades to the intersection of community building, social justice, and climate stability. As an award-winning architect with LEED certification, Beatriz has spearheaded numerous high-performance and sustainable projects. Her passion for climate, environmental justice and just transition extends to her role as an educator, where she has developed and led professional and workforce development workshops in the United States and Mexico.

Previously serving as the Director of Defiende Nuestra Tierra for The Wilderness Workshop and as a co-founding member of Voces Unidas de las Montañas, Beatriz now leads Protegete, a statewide initiative under Conservation Colorado. The mission of Protegete is to amplify Latino-driven solutions for the protection of our lands, water, air, and the fight for environmental and climate justice.

In 2021, Beatriz was appointed to represent Disproportionately Impacted Communities in Congressional District 3 on the Colorado Environmental Justice Action Task Force. She also co-chaired the Cumulative Impact Analysis working group, and their recommendations have received endorsement from Governor Polis. Beatriz proudly represented the United States as a member of the delegation at the 2022 World Forestry Congress in Seoul, South Korea, where her work in elevating diverse, historically excluded voices in conservation and the future of U.S. mountain west resort economies garnered global recognition. Currently, she represents the environmental community in the Resources Advisory Commission for the Northwest region of the Bureau of Land Management. In 2023 she was awarded the Environmental Justice Warrior Award by the NAACP.
