Summer 2025 | Public Backcountry Hikes

Thanks for your interest in our Summer 2025 guided hikes. We travel on US Forest Service trails around Eagle County. Our guides are Wilderness First Responders and Certified Interpretive Guides. We hike at a reasonable pace and take stops along the way to learn about the natural world that we are hiking in.

August


  • Full Day 8:00 am - 3:00 pm
    8.25 miles roundtrip/1,400 ft. elevation gain
    Near Vail Pass

    A pleasant ascent to a mountain pass with great views!

  • Full Day 5:00 am - 5:00 pm
    10 miles roundtrip/3,000 ft. elevation gain
    Near Minturn

    Our biggest and highest public hike that we offer. Please carefully consider if you are ready for this 13er. We will plan to wake up early and turn around if we are concerned about thunderstorms. Please reach out if you have questions!

  • Full Day 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
    10 miles roundtrip/2,500 ft. elevation gain
    Near Camp Hale

    From Camp Hale, we will follow the Colorado Trail as it climbs to Kokomo Pass at 12,000'. There are excellent views at the top and along the way.

  • Full Day 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
    4 miles roundtrip/750 ft. elevation gain
    Near Homestake

    A slightly bumpy drive brings us to a fairly short hike that ends with beautiful alpine lakes. The trail is short, but features some uneven terrain and a couple of short steep sections of trail.

  • Full Day 7:30 am - 4:00 pm
    6.5 miles roundtrip/1,800 ft. elevation gain
    Near Eagle, CO

    Mt. Thomas offers panoramic views of several mountain ranges and unique trail sections that were burned by the 2021 Sylvan Lake Fire. We'll enjoy some big views and talk about the ecology of wildfires.

    Near Vail Pass

    The Corral Creek trail will take us to an alpine meadow beneath Uneava Peak.

PLEASE NOTE: Start and end times are approximate. Approximate start and end times will fluctuate based on weather, hiking pace of the group, etc. Your guide will send you an email 1-2 days before with exact start and estimated end time informed by weather, drive time, etc. 

Start time: Time you need to be at Walking Mountains Avon Campus to take transportation to the trailhead. Start times may be subject to change.

End time: Indicates time you should be back to your car at Walking Mountains.
